U.S. Photographer’s Roma Rising Exhibit Opened by Charge D’Affaires in Prague
Prague, September 2, 2005
The Roma Rising exhibition of the celebrated U.S. photographer Chad Evan Wyatt opened at the Prague Castle under the auspices of the First Lady, Mrs. Livia Klausova and the Human Rights Commissioner of the Czech government, Mr. Svatopluk Karasek. Charge d’Affaires Cameron Munter delivered opening remarks to a large crowd that represented Czechs and Americans from the arts, media, and government.
The opening followed a press conference, which included interviews with the Embassy Spokesman. The U.S. Embassy also supported the upcoming publication of the Roma Rising book. The exhibition and the book present a cross-section of Roma members in the Czech Republic who have achieved professional and academic success in a society where prejudices against them still linger – demonstrating that stereotypes can cause us to overlook minorities of talent and courage.
