Czechs travelling to the United States for tourism or short-term business can use the Visa Waiver Program to visit the U.S. They need to apply through the on-line Electronic System of Travel Authorization (ESTA) at https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/. Completing the form is free of charge; the form is also available in Czech language. (more) |

June 29, 2009 The Embassy opened its doors to Americans living in the Czech Republic on June 22, 2009 for the second annual American Citizens Open House. June 28, 2009 US Embassy Cultural Attaché David Gainer participated in the launching of Milan Vodicka’s newest book “Den kdy dosly prachy” on June 22. This book, written by Czech journalist Milan Vodicka deals with historical facts concerning the Great Depression, its effects and changes on human life, and what we should be prepared to face now. June 25, 2009 On June 19, Chargé d’Affaires Mary Thompson-Jones hosted the Awards Ceremony of the annual English Language Essay Competition organized by the Society of Friends of the USA (SPUSA) at the U.S. Embassy residence. (more) |
June 23, 2009 A monument to U.S. President Woodrow Wilson will return to a location at the main Prague train station that bears his name. Thanks to the effort of American Friends of the Czech Republic (AFoCR) the memorial, torn down by the Nazis in 1941, is slated to be unveiled in 2010. (more) |
June 19, 2009 In the middle of a marathon of readings, conversations and book signings, the 19th Prague Writers’ Festival awarded its annual Knight of Culture Award for cultural philanthropy. This year, the beautiful bronze statue “Lady of the Lake / Jezerní panna” was presented to the U.S. Embassy in Prague for its long-term support of the Prague Writers’ Festival. (more) |
June 19, 2009 The Czech National Reference Laboratory identified on Friday, June 19 the seventh case of A/H1N1 virus, or Mexican Flu. A 28-year-old Prague woman returning from New York suffered from respiratory problems and sought medical treatment at the Na Bulovce Teaching Hospital in Prague. As her illness was mild she was not hospitalized: his condition is improving with home care. (more) |

June 11, 2009 At the beginning of June, Brno’s University of Defense hosted the opening of a unique exhibition of historical photographs and papers documenting the life and tragic end of General Heliodor Píka, a Czechoslovak Army officer executed on June 21, 1949 by the Communist regime after a fabricated trial.
